Foods That Lower Testosterone

Testosterone levels can deplete naturally with age and as a result of chronic illness. Because testosterone is important for sexual health as well as muscles and development, it is wise to protect your T-levels. The easiest way to do this is through diet. Not only are there certain testosterone-boosting foods you can eat, but there are a number of foods you should avoid.

Alcohol has a definite link to testosterone levels so by cutting back and avoiding excessive drinking, you should see improvements in your sex life. Beer specifically, is made from estrogenic hops, so the reason to avoid that is obvious. Mixed drinks are just as bad if not worse due to the additional sugar intake; too much sugar in the diet lowers testosterone in males. A low-fat diet is also not recommended because these diets usually involve carbohydrates being the main source of energy. More carbs means more sugars, which means less testosterone. Additionally a certain amount of fat is required for the release of the hormone so when combined with a low-sugar diet, you sex drive will be grateful.

Pasta is a staple of many American diets, and is high in carbohydrates. While these can give you ideal fueling for a marathon, it is not likely you will run one after each meal. What you get is excess sugar and stored fat, neither of which benefit your T-level. Sugar is dangerously high in foods such as ice cream and other delicious snacks. The empty calories of ice cream not only can cause migraines and fatigue, but the excess sugar is no friend of testosterone. Snacks, candies, chocolate and cookies are all hard to turn down, but if you want to keep optimal testosterone levels, turn them down you must. The male libido takes a big hit when blood sugar levels are high, so consider replacing these snacks with healthier options like fruits and vegetables.

Game time or just hanging out in the man cave always calls for chips, wings, soda, pizza and fast food. Nachos may be the perfect complement to any game but they are not doing your heart or

weight any favors. Fried wings are likely to up your cholesterol levels and your testosterone and subsequently, your sex drive, will take the hit.

Sugary sodas have the same impact as ice cream and cookies with the added problem of their harmful packaging. The materials used for plastic bottles possess strong estrogen properties that can harm your health. Not only is fast food greasy and bad for your heart and waistline, but the low-quality, antibiotic injected meats are slowly killing your libido. Let's not forget cheese; whether its on pizza or nachos it has the same impact; it interferes with your body's natural production of hormones, including testosterone.

FOODS THAT ARE NOT SO GOOD FOR YOUR TESTOSTERONE LEVELS

Finally, there are the foods you are told to eat for good health. Unfortunately, this does not include good testosterone health.
Flax is a great source of omega-3 which is the healthy fat we need. However flax seeds contain lignans which like to mimic estrogen, so if you need the omega-3 boost, opt for a supplement instead. Licorice is recommended for relieving stress and it is effective. It is equally as effective at lowering testosterone levels because of its estrogen-like compounds. Soy is boasted by health professionals as necessary, but this really cannot be applied to men. Soy contains such high levels of estrogen, that it has been considered equivalent to taking birth control pills, which is something men are not interested in.

Whole grains may do wonders for your digestive tract, but the gluten increases prolactin levels, which in turn decrease testosterone levels. High-fiber diets essentially have the same effect as too much fiber alters the metabolism of testosterone.

Fiber and grains contribute beneficially to your health, so you don't want to avoid them. However, monitor your intake closely if you are aware that you have low T-levels. Legumes and beans not only contain a certain type of fiber but also lignans which lowers serum testosterone and inhibits dihydrotestosterone levels. Essentially you are what you eat, so if you notice your sex drive is plummeting and low testosterone is to blame, try cutting out any of the culprit discussed above and get yourself back on track.
